39 missing after Ukraine coal mine explosion
Thirty-nine miners are missing after an explosion at a Ukrainian coal mine on Tuesday, officials said.
Nine bodies were recovered and one miner survived.
“As of 9 a.m. (0600 GMT), 172 miners have been evacuated from the pit,” Ukraine’s Emergencies Ministry said in a statement. “Ten miners were found. Nine were dead and one was injured. The fate of 39 miners remains unknown.”
A regional official said earlier that rescue teams were looking for 10 miners still underground and unaccounted for at the Zasyadko mine in the eastern town of Donetsk.
