Actelis Unveils ML 640 Carrier Ethernet Over Copper Switch, Creating an Intelligent Ethernet Access Edgeadmin
Actelis Networks® Inc., the global leader in Carrier Ethernet over Copper(TM) access technology, announced the ML 640 which is the latest innovation in their Carrier Ethernet over Copper access portfolio. The ML 640 enables service providers to create an intelligent Ethernet access edge with sophisticated bandwidth control, traffic management and quality of services features.
Like all of the Actelis ML 600 Carrier Ethernet over Copper product family, the new ML 640 combines Actelis’ innovative EFMplus(TM) Ethernet in the First Mile copper transmission capabilities with advanced Carrier Ethernet service delivery features that are certified to be compliant with the Metro Ethernet Forum’s MEF 9 and MEF 14 specifications. Actelis EFMplus-based platforms deliver the performance, resiliency and simplicity that carriers need to give their customers consistent Ethernet services over voice-grade copper, enabling providers to dramatically expand their Carrier Ethernet service offerings without deploying fiber.
“The selection of Actelis as our Carrier Ethernet over Copper equipment provider for Ethernet Access projects throughout Europe has been an ideal solution for us,” said Alireza Mahmoodshahi CTO of COLT. “The new traffic management and quality of services features of the ML 640 give us the ability to build an intelligent Ethernet access edge enabling us to maximize the performance and reliability of the services we provide to our customers, and make the most effective use of the available access bandwidth.”
The ML 640 Carrier Ethernet over Copper access switch has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious NetEvents Metro Product of the Year, which was awarded to the Actelis ML 600 Ethernet Access Device in 2006. Actelis solutions combine innovative EFMplus high performance transmission for copper access networks with full Carrier Ethernet switching capabilities. These combined technologies enable network operators, like COLT and Easynet, to push their Ethernet service offerings well beyond the fiber footprint and reach nearly 100% of their customer base using their existing copper network. With support for the full range of MEF 10 bandwidth control, traffic management and quality of service features along with the existing performance and reliability of the rest of the ML 600 family, the ML 640 creates a new intelligent Ethernet access edge at the customer premise.
“The new ML 640′s service provisioning functionality and support for a broader set of the MEF 10 traffic management specification enables service providers to maximize the revenue from the precious bandwidth in the access network,” said Craig Easley, Vice President of Marketing at Actelis Networks and MEF Board Member. “Actelis is very pleased with the market response to these major enhancements in ethernet access edge technology.”
