Alcan Senior Executive underscores importance of successful partnership models

Jacynthe Cã´tã©, a Senior Vice President of Alcan Inc. and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company’s Bauxite and Alumina Group stressed the importance of partnering in her remarks at the fourth annual International Cooperation Days (ICD) forum. Organized by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and its partner, this year’s forum is focused on ‘Working Together for Effective Aid’.

“Alcan believes that its success is directly linked to the economic, social and environmental well-being of the communities in which it operates. The Company develops its business strategy in concert with the needs of these communities,” said Ms. Cã´tã© during a panel discussion regarding successful partnership models. “As a developer of natural resources, Alcan places great importance on being an active member within a community and partners with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), where appropriate,” she added.

In her address, Ms. Cã´tã© said that Alcan wants to partner with NGO’s that share similar values and long-term objectives. “Partnering has the power to multiply the Company’s potential to make a difference. That is why Alcan is committed to engaging the right partners, building consensus around difficult issues, and pursuing business opportunities that strengthen its position but also provide a sustainable environment for future generations,” concluded Cã´tã©.

As an example of partnering, Ms. Cã´tã© made reference to the Company’s 3-year US$300,000 collaboration with NGO’s in Ghana, which supports the country in reaching its Millennium Development Goals through actions related to water, health and education.
