Oil and gas company Aminex PLC said it expects the arrival of the Maurel & Prom’s Caroil-6 drilling rig at its Nyuni/East Songo Songo licence in Tanzania to be delayed by “several weeks” due to problems with mechanical equipment on the rig.

The company said Pan-African Exploration Tanzania Ltd, a unit of Orca Exploration Ltd, which is currently using the rig, has temporarily suspended drilling operations in the Songo Songo gas field, pending repairs to the rig.

Pan-African is expected to deliver the rig as soon as it completes a new development well, SS-10, in Songo-Songo, it said.

Aminex has planned to drill two wells on the Nyuni East Songo-Songo PSA using the Caroil-6 drilling rig.

The company has finalised agreements for services, supplies and personnel, and extensive site preparation is virtually complete, it said.

Aminex chief executive Brian Hall had said in April that securing the Caroil-6 rig was an important milestone in the company’s 2007 drilling campaign.
