Azimut outlines an extensive radioactive zone at Daniel Lake

Azimut Exploration Inc. reports the prospecting discovery of a 6-km-long radioactive zone on its Daniel Lake property in the eastern part of the Ungava Bay region of Nunavik, Quebec.

The delineation of this new zone (the “Puqila Zone”) further confirms the district-scale uranium potential of the region. Azimut previously reported significant uranium mineralization on its adjacent North Rae property where 8 mineralized zones were identified over a cumulative length of 12.4 km. In addition, AREVA has discovered 14 mineralized zones on its nearby CAGE property (Azimut press release of July 30, 2008). The district-scale uranium potential of the Ungava Bay region is clearly demonstrated by the uranium footprint in lake-bottom sediments, which is comparable to the footprint of the Central Mineral Belt in Labrador hosting the Michelin deposit. (see appended map:http://www.azimut-exploration.com/images/en/Fig_PR_20080903.pdf).

The Puqila Zone occurs within a 6-km-long by 200- to 500-m-wide NW-trending envelope in the eastern part of the Daniel Lake property. This zone consists of a series of radioactive pegmatitic dykes hosted by granitic gneisses near the contact with the Lake Harbour Proterozoic metasediments. The dykes are generally subvertical and cross-cut the regional foliation. The geometry of individual dykes is variable, with thicknesses ranging from 1 to 80 m and lengths from 10 to 800 m. Spectrometric readings on 432 outcrops range from 1,000 to 65,200 counts per second with average U/Th ratios from 1 to 5 (using Radiation Solution(R) RS-125 and RS-230). Uranophane, a secondary uranium mineral, was observed at 50 different outcrops along this radioactive trend. A total of 432 grab rock samples were collected. Last year’s preliminary sampling consisted of 15 grab rock samples that graded up to 0.65% U3O8 (press release of April 9, 2008).

Rock sampling this summer on the North Rae property was distributed as follows: Aqpiq Zone (187 samples), Jonas Zone (163 samples) and Cirrus Zone (265 samples). Last year’s preliminary sampling on the Cirrus Zone consisted of 24 grab rock samples that graded up to 0.46% U3O8.

Analytical results are still pending for 1,189 rock samples from the North Rae and Daniel Lake properties.
