Badger Mining tops associations best companies list

Badger Mining Corp., a Berlin provider of specialized sand for industrial applications, has been named the best small business to work for in America by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

The SHRM in Alexandria, Va., is a human resources management association comprised of more than 210,000 individual members. The association released its third annual rankings of the “Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America” Monday. The companies were selected and ranked by the Great Places to Work Institute Inc.

The list recognizes firms with corporate cultures with management dedicated to communicating clearly with employees and that encourage staff to voice opinions. Family-owned Badger Mining was cited for its profit-sharing program, health care premiums that are fully paid by the company and its financial advice program.

The SHRM also ranked Milwaukee architectural firm Kahler Slater 18th among small businesses and Runzheimer International of Rochester, a Racine County provider of travel management consulting and employee relocation and compensation services, as 23rd among small businesses. Sheboygan-based property and casualty insurer Acuity was named 5th among mid-sized companies.
