Chhattisgarh earns Rs.7 billion in mineral royalty

Chhattisgarh has earned around Rs.7 billion royalty on coal, bauxite and iron ores during the first nine months of the current fiscal 2007-08, officials here said Monday.
The state, which has nearly 18 percent of the country’s total coal deposits and about 20 percent of nation’s iron ore reserves, earned Rs. 8.32 million royalty revenue in the last fiscal year 2006-07, and Rs.7.37. million in fiscal 2005-06.
Officials of the Directorate of Mining said the state has net up Rs.6.95 billion till December.
They claimed that the total revenue receipt on minerals would be well over Rs. 9 billion in the current fiscal when the final calculation is made after March 31.
Coal and bauxite abundant Korba district topped the list of highest revenue contributor till December with Rs.3.71 billion followed by Korea and Raigarh districts with Rs. 940 million and Rs 558 million respectively.
Officials said various public sector and private companies have excavated 206,780 metric tonnes of iron ore in first nine months from the state’s Dantewada, Kanker, Durg and Rajnandgaon districts.
