Drilling results at Iran Farsi Oil Block promising

Drilling at offshore Farsi Block, southern Iran, is promising good results, Hossein Roshandel, the director for exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said, MNA reported.

”Three wells have been so far drilled at the block, indicating the existence of oil in the area,” he told the Petroenergy Information Network (PIN).

He added that the oil found in this block is of heavy type.

Roshandel continued, ”Drilling of the fourth well is underway, and outcomes of the operations will be determined next month.”

According to PIN, National Iranian Oil Company awarded explorations at Farsi Block to an Indian consortium in 2002. Led by state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the consortium including Indian Oil and Oil India announced outcomes of exploration activities as positive. Drilling of the first three wells has finished, and there would be an untapped field in the block, upon being commerciality viable, the consortium announced.

Located in the Persian Gulf, Farsi Block is as large as 6,700 kilometers, where depth of water is at 90 meters.
