Grand opening Dec. 2 for Loomis ethanol plant

Sioux Falls-based Broin Cos., the nation’s largest dry mill ethanol producer, announced Tuesday that the grand opening for its latest plant will be Dec. 2.

The opening of Prairie Ethanol near Loomis, north of Mitchell, will begin with the Vanguard Squadron, the world’s only 100 percent ethanol-powered aerobatic fleet, performing flyovers at 10:15 a.m. The speaking program will begin at 10:30 with lunch at 11:30. Public tours of the production facility will start at 1 p.m. and run until 4.
Prairie Ethanol will consume 21 million bushels of corn to produce 60 million gallons of ethanol. The plant will employ 40 full-time workers with an annual payroll of $1.8 million.
