Iron ore may become Peraks revenue earner

IPOH: With the once thriving tin industry a thing of the past, iron ore mines could be a revenue earner for Perak.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the state had received applications to open up such mines on a large scale.

“We will consider the applications and approval will be given to companies with good track records and the mining operations must not affect the flow of rivers or residential areas.”

Speaking after chairing the weekly state exco meeting here yesterday, he said: “We want to ensure that the companies given the licences would only mine the iron ore and not extract red sand from the hills”.

According to Tajol Rosli, the applications were submitted with satellite images of rock formations containing iron ore.

Commenting on recent allegations of illegal logging in Gunung Korbu, the Menteri Besar said 10 trees had been stolen from private land whose owner later lodged a police report.
