Mineral sand mining: Govt against licence to pvt cos

The CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala was against granting licence to private companies for mineral sand mining in the state, Industries Minister Elamara Karim said today.

`Licences to private companies were granted during the previous Congress-led UDF rule and the same will be cancelled if they are found to be going against the principles of our Government,’ he told reporters here.

When pointed out that the G.O. In this connection was issued a week after the LDF assumed power on May 18, he said the Additional Secretary in the previous Ministry had issued the order without the consent of the new incumbents.

‘The Principal Secretary will probe into the circumstances leading to the issuance of the order,” he said adding that the licences would be cancelled if they went against the government’s policies.

Granting licences to private entrepreneurs at Kayamkulam was the decision of the previous Government and the LDF had nothing to do with it, he said.

The Minister said his Government was in favour of allotting licence only to public sector companies.
