Miramar Mining Strikes Gold With AltiGen VoIP Phone Systemadmin
AltiGen(R) Communications, Inc. a pioneering manufacturer of VoIP business phone systems and call center solutions, announced today that Canadian based Miramar Mining Corporation (Nachrichten) (TSX: MAE, AMEX: MNG) has deployed AltiGen’s VoIP Phone System at two locations to meet its multi-site voice over IP (VoIP) requirements and expansion efforts.
Miramar Mining Corporation is a gold exploration company that controls the Hope Bay project, one of the largest, best-grade undeveloped gold deposits in Canada. The Company has significantly increased its exploration program and needed a system that could keep up with new requirements. “After narrowing our decision to three products, we chose AltiGen based upon its capability, flexibility and ease of use,” said Director of IT, Paulo Coan. “Some of the other systems required multiple products to meet our requirements. Miramar deployed AltiGen’s phone system at its corporate headquarters in North Vancouver and will add another system at its ConMine site, located in Yellowknife, Canada. By connecting the two locations with Voice over IP, the Company will recognize enough savings to pay for the new systems in less than two years. By managing the day-to-day changes themselves, the Company will save even more. “Although the system is advanced, it is simple to manage,” said Coan. “It’s very flexible. With a few clicks you can add an extension or change a feature. Our business is mining, but we like to take advantage of new technology when it provides clear benefits and can be managed in-house.”
One of the other challenges Miramar faced was migrating users from an existing legacy phone system with most of the “key-system-like” features located on the telephone. Denise Hodges of Optinet Systems, a Canadian AltiGen Authorized Partner helped Miramar overcome this problem by deploying AltiGen’s IP 710 VoIP phone. The IP 710 phone provides all of the traditional capabilities such as intercom, line appearance and busy lamp fields while adding VoIP, 15 user programmable keys and one-button access to voicemail, conference calling, call transferring, and call logs.
