MRPL to sell petroleum products to Mauritius

New Delhi: State-owned Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) will supply 1.03 million metric tonnes of petroleum products to the State Trading Corporation (STC) of Mauritius during fiscal 2006-07, it was announced Friday.

A subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), MRPL will commence supplies to Mauritius from August, an official statement said.

The products to be supplied are 350,000 metric tonnes of gas oil, 260 000 metric tonnes of jet fuel, 90,000 metric tonnes of mogas and 330,000 metric tonnes of fuel oil, representing full one-year requirement of Mauritius.

This is the first time that STC Mauritius has negotiated directly with a refinery for the supply of petroleum products.

India has a major presence in Mauritius petroleum product retailing through a wholly owned subsidiary of state-owned marketing and refining major Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil).
