Norilsk gets another nickel/copper/platinum licence

Norilsk Nickel , the world’s top nickel and palladium miner, has obtained a geological exploration licence for a large nickel, copper and platinum deposit, the Russian company said on Friday.

Norilsk said in a statement it had obtained a licence to explore the Kureysko-Gorbiyachenskaya area on the Taimyr peninsula, where its main Polar division is based.

Russia’s Natural Resources Ministry said in a statement the deposit could contain around 1 million tonnes of nickel, 1.8 million tonnes of copper and 300 tonnes of platinum.

Earlier this week Norilsk said it had obtained licences to explore two other deposits on the Taimyr peninsula, which could together contain 2.6 million tonnes of nickel, 4.3 million tonnes of copper and 750 tonnes of platinum.
