Olin Forecasts Lower 1st-Quarter Results

Olin Corp., which makes copper alloys, ammunition, chlorine and caustic soda, warned Tuesday its first-quarter profit would drop sharply, hurt by softness in its chlor alkali and metals businesses.

The company projects quarterly earnings of 25 cents per share, compared with the 47 cents per share earned a year earlier.

Olin said it expects chlor alkali shipment volumes and pricing to be lower than the first quarter of 2006. For the metals business, it anticipates lower volumes to be offset by higher pricing.
