ONGC-Cairn-Videocon begin fresh drilling at Ravva

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and its partners, Cairn Energy and Videocon Industries, have begun fresh drilling in the Ravva field to extend oil production by a year.

The ONGC-Cairn-Videocon joint venture is planning to drill 5 in-fill wells to extend the plateau production rate and increase ultimate recovery.

“The campaign of in-fill well drilling is likely to result in an incremental oil production of 18.5 million barrels,” a senior ONGC official said.

The JV has hired Rig-31 from US-based Hercules Offshore for the campaign on the field located off the Amlapuram cost in the shallow waters of Krishna-Godavari basin.

“The nine-month long programme will allow the Ravva oilfield to stay on plateau production of 50,000 barrels of oil per day until the end of 2007,” the official said.

The joint venture has also planned to drill two exploratory wells and five optional wells on the successful outcome of infill/exploratory drilling.
