Otis Gen2 elevator lauded again for environmental benefits
Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. , won the 2006 “Korea Green Management Excellence Award” for its energy-efficient Gen2(R) machine-roomless elevator.
The award is presented annually by Korea Management Association Registration & Assessments Inc. (KMAR), a member organization of the South Korean government’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy.
“We are honored that the Otis Gen2 elevator system has once again received recognition for environmental excellence,” said Otis President Ari Bousbib. “This award reflects Otis’ commitment to developing cleaner and more efficient solutions for the global market.”
Otis’ Gen2 elevator has won numerous environmental awards. In 2006, the Gen2 elevator was recognized as one of China’s “Top 10 Architectural Science and Technology Achievements,” the most prestigious award in China’s construction industry, and was named one of Spain’s “100 best ideas” in the social responsibility category by the country’s leading business magazine, Actualidad Economica.
In 2005, Otis was the first elevator company to receive the “Green Product Award” from the China Environmental Protection Foundation, a non-government group dedicated to protecting the environment.
The Gen2 elevator’s patented coated-steel belts and gearless machine do not require lubrication, making the system cleaner for the environment. In addition, its gearless, permanent-magnet machine consumes half the energy of conventional geared machines.
