Patriot Coal Named Recipient of Mountaineer Guardian Safety Award

Patriot Coal Corporation today announced that it again received a prestigious Mountaineer Guardian Safety Award.

The Rivers Edge metallurgical mine in the Wells complex was presented the Mountaineer Guardian Safety Award by the West Virginia Coal Association for the second consecutive year. Mountaineer Guardian Safety Awards are presented each year to mining operations that have demonstrated a commitment to operational safety. Inspectors for the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training nominate facilities based on numerous safety-related criteria, including below average injury incidence rates and an effective, comprehensive safety program.

“Our goal is to work toward zero accidents every shift of every day. Maintaining a safe work environment is part of our culture, as evidenced by Patriot’s receipt of Mountaineer Guardian Safety Awards for eight consecutive years,” noted Patriot President and Chief Executive Officer Richard M. Whiting. “I thank our employees at Rivers Edge for another safe year.”
