Quang Ninh province considers coal mine tour

Tuesday, August 15th 2006

Travellers are likely to be provided with the opportunity to visit coal mines in the northern province of Quang Ninh, as the provincial tourist sector is considering opening a down pit tour in the future, according to a tourism official.

Local travel agencies in collaboration with the Ha Tu Coal Company are conducting research into this potential tourism route amid the increasing demand for diverse tours of both domestic and foreign tourists, the official said.

If it is opened, the unique tour will take travellers down into the bottoms of coal mines to see with their own eyes how miners work, he stressed.

Quang Ninh province, home to the UNESCO-recognised world natural heritage site, Ha Long Bay, is one of the country’s most tourist attractions. It is also the country’s largest coal mining locality with around 150 km long of coal mines. (VNA)
