SUALs SUBR unit aims to boost bauxite output to 4.2 mln tonnes by 2013
Sevuralboksitruda (SUBR), a bauxite mining division of the SUAL Group (RTS: SUAL), plans to increase annual production to 4.2 million tonnes of bauxite by 2013 from an expected 3.2 million tonnes this year.
The investment department of SUAL Holding has approved a SUBR development project that calls for accelerating the development of the Novo-Kalyinskaya and Cheremukhovskaya Glubokaya mines, SUAL Holding production and strategic development director Anatoly Zharov said in a SUAL press release.
The investment program is expected to enable SUBR to bring annual bauxite production up to 4.2 million tonnes within the next seven years, Zharov said.
It was reported earlier that SUBR plans to increase production to 3.8 million tonnes by 2010 by upgrading the No. 14 mine, where a second hoist is to be launched this year, and modernizing the Cheremukhovskaya Glubokaya mine, expanding its capacity by 90% to 1.5 million tonnes per
year.
SUBR mined 3.383 million tonnes of bauxite in 2005.
