Thursday, August 10th 2006

Highway 95 in Mineral County is back open after a small chemical spill.

The spill forced the three-hour closure of US Highway 95 at Walker Lake about 15 miles north of Hawthorne.

The spill occurred mid-afternoon when a car collided with a commercial truck carrying drums of a chemical solution that includes chlorine.

The Nevada Highway Patrol estimates about 30 gallons were spilled. There were only minor injuries in the accident. Patrol Captain Mark Malloy says no evacuations were necessary.
