Volchansky Ugol mines 6% more coal in 2006

Volchansky Ugol, a coal mining company in the Sverdlovsk region, produced 1.31 million tonnes of coal in 2006, 6% more than in the previous year, an aide to the company’s general director, Larisa Pavlovich told Interfax, citing preliminary

figures.

The company mined 104,000 tonnes of coal in December, which was 27.8% more than in the same month a year earlier, preliminary figures show.

Pavlovich did not give the company’s production targets for 2007 supply contracts have not been finalized yet. “The volume of production will depend on who will buy our coal. We are still continuing to sign contracts,” she said.

Volchansky Ugol increased coal production by 13% to 1.235 million tonnes in 2005. The company mines coal for TGC-9′s Bogoslovsky power plant and WGC-5′s (RTS: OGKE) Reftinskaya power plant.
