Million dollar fine for Energy Online
Energy Online broke the law when it claimed its Hawke’s Bay and Waitemata customers were on a price freeze – then went ahead and increased prices.
The electricity retailer has been fined $140,000 in the Napier District Court, after being found guilty of breaching the Fair Trading Act.
It also has to refund customers a total of $860,000.
That and an order to pay costs of more than $6,000 – brings Energy Online’s total bill for the breach to over $1 million.
