Beaconsfield debates mine reopening

There was a heated meeting in Beaconsfield last night over the possible re-opening of the town’s gold mine.

Mine management told the meeting of about 40 locals that if the mine did reopen, seismic events like the one that caused the Anzac Day rockfall would be minimised, but could not be ruled out.

Three residents concerned about the state of their houses questioned management and West Tamar Mayor Barry Easther after the revelation.

Mick Wain alleges the mine has already damaged his house and he is not looking forward to production resuming.
