Birim Goldfields Inc.: Drilling to Commence on Sangolo Property, Burkina Faso

Birim Goldfields Inc. is pleased to announce that drilling is set to commence on two prospect areas, the Baobab zone and the Acacia zone, on the Company’s 223 sq. km Sangolo Property in Burkina Faso. The Sangolo Property is located on the Hounde Birimian greenstone belt, an emerging gold belt in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Birim plans to drill 19 reverse circulation (“RC”) drill holes for a total of 1,500 meters on the two prospect areas.

Birim purchased an option to acquire 100% of the Sangolo Property in April 2007. The Company rapidly identified the initial two targets and advanced exploration in these areas with a view to drill test these zones ahead of the onset of the seasonal rains.

The Baobab Prospect contains old yet active artisanal workings over a distance of 500 meters and a width of 150 meters (see map at the following address: http://www.ccnmatthews.com/docs/Sangolo_Property.pdf). The workings are in a structurally favourable location for gold mineralization on a north-trending sheared contact between volcaniclastics and mafic volcanics in close proximity to a granite intrusive. The local artisanal miners are focused on a series of sheeted quartz veins and veinlets that are hosted by very strongly altered volcaniclastics. The drilling is planned to test this zone to a vertical depth of between 40 and 55 meters over a strike distance of 400 meters.

The Acacia Prospect is an east-trending structural corridor of ferruginous quartz-carbonate-sulphide veins, which are exposed along a strike length of 1,200 meters and an approximate width of 10 to 20 meters. This area is situated within highly altered mafic volcanics and is being intensely mined by the local artisans. The drilling will test 600 meters of this zone on 100 meter or 400 meter spaced lines and to a vertical depth of 45 meters.

Recent positive developments on the Hounde Belt include the granting to Semafo of the Mana mining permit (reserves of 902,900 oz.) and Orezone Resources’ successful definition of a combined inferred and indicated resource of 354,721 oz. at their Bondi and Golden Hill permits. Birim’s Sangolo Property is located 15 kilometers SE of the Bondi permit.

Birim Goldfields Inc. is an exploration company focused on gold exploration in West Africa and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol BGI.
