Brooks Range Petroleum conducts winter exploration
Brooks Range Petroleum Corporation says it’s drilling an exploratory well this winter on the North Slope. The small Anchorage-based firm says it wants to confirm an oil accumulation just north of the giant Prudhoe Bay field that had been tested in 1974. The company says a drilling rig began work on the North Shore Number-One well on February eighth.
Brooks Range Petroleum executives say they’re targeting oil pools of 25-million to 50-million barrels, which are relatively small by North Slope standards.
After the North Shore well is finished, the rig will move a mile and a half north to drill another hole on a Gwydyr Bay prospect.
