Buyer poised for wave energy firm

An announcement that a buyer has been found for a troubled renewables firm in Stornoway is expected this week.

Camcal has run into severe financial problems and is in debt to businesses in the Western Isles.

However, it is understood a business consortium has shown interest in taking it over.

Wave energy machines for Portugal were built at the yard, which was also involved in work on huge towers for the Beatrice offshore wind farm.

Camcal has previously commented on the irony of its struggle to survive amid the global drive towards renewable energy.
