Crew Gold Corporation: Take Over of Mining Works at LEFA

September 28, 2008 Filed Under: Mining Equipment

Crew Gold Corporation announces that its operating subsidiary at LEFA, Guinea has taken over the works being performed under its third party mining contract. The third party contract was expected to run for a further 27 months. The takeover was considered necessary to protect the open pit mining fleet. Good communication and a professional approach to the takeover resulted in no significant delays in mining production due to this action.

Acting CEO Bill LeClair states “The takeover of works was the consequence of an unresolved dispute regarding the supply of spare parts and the maintenance of equipment to original equipment manufacturer standards. It was carried out fully within the scope of the contract. As part of the takeover of works we will continue to have the benefit of a fully trained workforce. With the combination of both competent original third party contract personnel and our own personnel, we believe that we have the site management team in place with the skills and expertise to manage the requirements of mining ourselves. Performing and controlling the mining will give us greater control over the scheduling of both production and maintenance and, most importantly, will guarantee that the equipment remains at acceptable availability.”
