E.ON to invest in expanding coal-fired power plant in Kent
E.ON, Germany’s biggest power supplier, says it plans to invest one billion pounds in expanding capacity at its coal-fired power plant at Kingsnorth in Kent, England.
E.ON said in a statement it planned to build two new 800-megawatt so-called “supercritical” units at Kingsnorth, as part of the group’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
The two units would reduce carbon emissions by “almost two million tonnes a year” compared with the existing units.
“The new units will operate at an efficiency of 45 percent and above, compared to the existing units’ efficiency of 36 percent,” the statement said.
