Explosion reported at Colorado mine

Authorities were investigating reports Tuesday morning of an explosion at a uranium mine in the foothills west of Denver.

An electrical transformer appeared to be on fire near the mine, but it wasn’t immediately clear if that was the cause of the reported explosion.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received the report of a possible explosion at about 6:30 a.m. and were investigating, spokesman Jim Shires said. The area is about 15 miles west of Denver.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
