Thursday, August 10th 2006

The Cobar branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy held their annual dinner at the Town and Country Restaurant last Friday evening with the theme being Fun, Friendship and Fellowship.

The major Cobar mining companies were all well represented on the night including Peak Gold Mines, CSA Mine, Endeavor Mine.

There was one participant each from Tritton and Independence Group, a new explorer in the region.

Interactive activities started with a trivia quiz and culminated in a mini engineering challenge, where each table was appointed to a new mine north west Western Australia and was tasked with constructing a headframe for the new mine from newspaper, sticky tape and string.

All of the creations were tested with the hoisting capacity of high grade Jandra Crescent ore and surprisingly most were worthy of the task ahead.

During the evenings proceedings, Tom Simpson, AusIMM Cobar Branch Secretary presented Roger Jackson with his 10 year AusIMM membership certificate.
