Ghana`s biggest gold mining company to expand mill

Goldfields Ghana Limited, Ghana`s biggest gold mining company, is to expand its Tarkwa mill in the Western Region at a cost of US$175 million next year.

Dr. Tony Obeng, head of Corporate Affairs and Social Development, said at Takoradi in the Western Region that the Board of Directors of the Company has approved the expansion project.

He said this would lead to an increase of production by one million ounces of gold in the long term.

The mill expansion project would not have a negative impact on the environment.

Dr. Obeng said the company has also earmarked 1.5 million US dollars for social development projects in communities within its catchments area next year.

He said projects would be in education, health, sanitation as well as income enhancement businesses such agro processing.
