Golden West launches iron ore study

Iron ore hopeful Golden West Resources Ltd has launched a scoping study into the potential development of its flagship Wiluna West hematite project in Western Australia.

Managing director Gary Hutchinson said the scoping study would provide an initial overview of likely mining, engineering and port costs for the operation.

Golden West is examining the potential to start up an iron ore mine near Wiluna next year, at an initial rate of one million tonnes a year before ramping up to 10 million tonnes annually.

The project is about 35 kilometres south-west of Wiluna and 450 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.
