Harrison coal mining group plans annual dinner

CADIZ ”“ Plans are being made for the annual dinner and auction to raise money for the Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park Inc.

”Despite the loss of our ultimate goal in The Silver Spade, we have voted to go on with our plans to build a surface mining museum,” said President Claren Blackburn.

”To that end we need support both individually and financially, and so we will continue on with our annual dinner.”

The event will be held May 12 at the Hopedale Social Hall on Firehouse Ln. in Hopedale. Doors will open at 5:30, followed by the all-you-can-eat buffet dinner at 6:30 and the auction at 8.

The charge is $15 per person and tickets may be obtained by sending a check or money order ”“ payable to HCRHP ”“ to HCRHP Inc., Box 403, Cadiz, O., 43907.

The dinner’s guest speaker will be announced later.

For more information, for tickets or to donate an auction item, call (740) 937-2460 or (740) 942-3895. Auction items do not have to be coal or mining related and several CONSOL items have been secured.

Blackburn said the cab of the Silver Spade will be saved, in one piece, and taken to the park along with other items donated by CONSOL Energy and the salvage company involved in dismantling the huge machine.

”We look to our members and friends to continue to help build this unique park where we can feature our machinery and the surface mining industry,” she said.

”We need your support. We are looking for volunteers to help work on our equipment and get it in running order.”
