Ibram sees higher 2007 iron ore exports to China

Brazilian iron ore shipments to China could increase by 15% this year versus 2006, a spokesperson with Brazil’s mining institute Ibram told BNamericas.

By comparison, China imported 80Mt of iron ore from the South American country last year, the official said, adding the forecast increase in volume reflects ongoing strong demand in Asia.

Furthermore, total Brazilian exports of the steelmaking raw material are due to expand by more than 10% this year over some 260Mt in 2006, the spokesperson said.

Brazil is the home of miners CVRD, J Mendes, MBR and Mhag, among others.
