India wants Australia to re-think uranium sales

India believes it will only be a matter of time before the Australian government supplies it with uranium.

The Labour Party government in Australia has decided against selling yellowcake to India.

Even though the previous Australian administration was in favour of supplying uranium to India, the new government has banned sales because New Delhi is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamal Nath has said he hopes the Australian government will change its mind, not only for the larger context of global warming but also for the ‘broader relationship between India and Australia.’
