L&T to make worlds biggest coal gasifier plant

Construction major Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L & T) has bagged a contract worth 28 million euros ($ 44.13 million or Rs.1.70 billion) from China, the world’s largest and heaviest coal gasifier plant.

The Hebi Coal and Electricity Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhong Yuan Coal Chemical Industry Group’s mission.

Information of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), an official communiquã© published by the company Tuesday said that the heavy engineering division is the assembly and design of the structural design of the coal gasifier and synthesis gas cooler assembly plant in India.

The gas plant is expected to be 1740 tons, and in all likelihood will be the world’s largest and heaviest carburetor assembly, with a capacity for processing 3400 tons of coal per day.

The assembly is the heart of a methanol plant with a capacity of 600000 tonnes per year and the entire process is at L & T manufacturing facilities in Powai (north-east Mumbai) in Hazira, Gujarat.

One of the reasons why the Hazira selected, because of its proximity to the sea, the ease delivery of the system.

In the declaration, M.V. Kotwal, Member of the Board and Senior Executive Vice President, said that the production of these carburetor would require the transport of large parts with on-site installation, testing and assembly.

L & T has previously delivered several large coal gasifiers to China for the various ammonia, methanol, olefin and coal-to-liquid fuel projects.

With rising costs for oil and natural gas, coal gasification has a promising cost-effective alternative feedstock for the power, fertilizer and petrochemical complexes and coal to liquid fuel plants.
