ManTech wins $159 million contract to support mine-clearing efforts

ManTech International has received a contract worth up to $159 million to help the Army with mine clearing and other work in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait.

The Fairfax-based company plans to hire about 100 workers for the contract, which has an eight-month base period and an eight-month option, according to Mark Root, a ManTech spokesman.

ManTech, an information technology company that also provides other technical services to the government, will maintain equipment used in mine-clearing and mine-detection systems and provide training related to the equipment.

The contract was issued under the Army Communications Electronics Life Cycle Command, Rapid Response program. ManTech is a subcontractor to Alexandria-based VSE on that program.

ManTech has maintained route clearance and countermine systems for the Army since 2003, company officials say.

VSE said Jan. 3 that it received two contracts worth up to $206.8 million under the Rapid Response program.
