Meeting to discuss FutureGen coal plant
A public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Buffalo Civic Center to update residents on a proposal for FutureGen’s near-zero-emissions coal plant.
Area leaders have formed the Heart of Brazos Partnership and are proposing that the plant be built on 400 acres near Jewett in Leon County. The site is one of four being considered by the FutureGen Industrial Alliance and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Officials have said they intend to select a site by August.
Judges from Leon, Anderson, Limestone and Freestone counties will attend Thursday’s meeting to answer questions, along with Tom Wilkinson, executive director of the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.
