Midlands Minerals Commences Drilling for Gold on Several Large Anomalous Zones on the Itilima Project in Tanzania

Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Midlands Minerals Corporation is pleased to announce drilling for gold is scheduled to begin in October 2006 on the Itilima in Tanzania. The Itilima project is located on the Geita – Bulyanhulu – Sekenke trend, in an area with world-class gold deposits, and over 40 million oz in gold reserves.

“Itilima is an excellent gold prospect in Archean geology. There is potential for discovery on this project because it is on the same trend which hosts large world-class gold deposits such as Geita with 13.9 million oz of gold and Bulyanhulu with 13 million oz. This first phase of drilling on the Itilima is to demonstrate the potential for a significant-size deposit that could lead to establishing an inferred resource as soon as possible”, said Marc Boisvert, P. Eng., Vice President Exploration.

Phase one drilling will entail 10 holes and 1500 metres of NQ Diamond Core Drilling to a planned depth of 150 metres per hole. The Company has entered into a drilling contract with Stanley Mining Services (T) Ltd. (“Stanley”), a drilling company with offices in Mwanza Tanzania. Under the terms of the contract, Stanley will commence drilling on or about October 26, 2006 and they will provide drilling personnel, equipment and consumables to complete the drilling program as described above.

The MMI results confirm the south extension of the Itilima zone which was traced by MMI anomalies over a 600 metre strike length. The north and south extensions, as well as the parallel zone, have also been confirmed by MMI results which have delineated large clusters of anomalous gold zones over a strike length of 3 to 4 kilometres as reported in the Press Release of August 8, 2006.

The north extension has anomalous values at several sites over a strike length of 1.5 kilometres. A parallel anomaly of 1.3 kilometres strike length, and with stronger intensity, is the first priority drill target. A third area located on the west side of the diorite is also selected as a drill target. “Assays for the central area are pending, and we are confident we will have additional drill targets based on the preliminary MMI results obtained”, said Marc Boisvert, P. Eng.

In preparation for drilling, the Company conducted a detailed Metal Mobil Ion (“MMI”) geochemistry program on the western part of the Itilima (PL 1406). The work program entailed three detailed grids with lines spaced at 100 metres and sampling stations along the lines at 20 metre intervals. Two grids, the main Itilima Grid and the Itilima West Grid, covered two anomalous areas bordering both sides of a diorite sill over a strike 1 length of 3 to 4 kilometres. The third grid covered an anomalous gold area coinciding with an iron rich dyke along a NE structural lineament.

A total of 2687 samples were collected along 50.7 kilometres of grid lines on PL 1406. Samples were prepared at the SGS laboratories in Mwanza, Tanzania and shipped to the SGS Laboratory in Canada for analysis of gold plus four pathfinder elements (Co, Ni, Pb, Ag) using the “Mobile Metal Ions” (MMI-B5) procedure.

The Itilima Project is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields, an area with world -class gold deposits and over 40 million ounces of known gold reserves. Gold mines in the area include Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu, AngloGold Ashanti’s Geita and Resolute Mining’s Golden Pride. Previous RC drilling done by the company in 2004 also confirmed the presence of diamondiferous kimberlites on the Itilima Project.

Midlands also has highly prospective gold properties in Tanzania and on the Ashanti Goldbelt and on the Asankrangwa Goldbelt in Ghana.
