Mine Safety Appliances Awarded $15.1 Million in Military Contracts for Ballistic Helmets

Mine Safety Appliances Co., which manufactures protective equipment, said Thursday it was awarded three contracts totaling $15.1 million to provide ballistic helmets for the U.S. military.

The company said two of the awards are orders from a previous five-year Army contract that called for up to 880,000 helmets.

Mine Safety did not disclose how many helmets it will provide under the new orders. However, it said it is completing production of 120,000 helmets from a previous order under that contract.

The company also said it received a new contract from the Defense Department to produce helmets for different branches of the military, but did not identify them.

Shares of Mine Safety rose 21 cents to $41.04 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
