New coal mines planned for Bowen Basin
Macarthur Coal says it is planning three new coal mines in the Bowen Basin, in central Queensland.
The managing director, Ken Talbot, says the company will make a decision on whether to develop the Olive Downs mine near Copabella next year.
Mr Talbot says a new underground mine is planned for Moorvale, to extend the life of the existing mine, while the new Moorvale West mine will produce coking coal.
He says the company is also exploring a site at West Walker, after pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal was found in the area.
