New mine planned for Tasmanias west coast
The Allegiance Mining company is planning a second mine on Tasmania’s west coast.
The open cut nickel and copper mine would be north of Zeehan at Melba Flats, near the Avebury nickel mine which is due to go into production this year.
Allegiance has applied for a mining licence and will increase drilling in the area over the next year or so.
Chairman Tony Howland-Rose says the processing facilities at Avebury have made the operation at Melba Flats more viable.
He says it will be a smaller operation, but produce higher grade ore.
