Norilsk Nickel ups 2006 palladium, platinum production forecasts

Norilsk Nickel [RTS:GMKN] has upwardly revised its 2006 forecast for palladium production to 3.05 mln-3.1 mln ounces (95-96 metric tons) and platinum production to 720,000-730,000 ounces (22-23 m/t), the Russian metals giant said Friday.

The 2006 nickel and copper forecast remained unchanged: nickel at 243,000-248,000 m/t and copper at 422,000-427,000 m/t.

The company said it had produced 121,000 m/t of nickel, 218,000 m/t of copper, 881,000 oz. (27.4 m/t) of palladium, and 215,000 oz. (6.7 m/t) of platinum in the first half of 2006.

The company said these production volumes did not include the output of Stillwater Mining Company, a U.S.-based subsidiary.
