Orna to explore oil, gas deposit in Rembang block
Private oil and gas exploration firm Orna International is planning to conduct oil and gas exploration in Bulu Banjar village, Tuban district next May, an official said.
“Orna International has asked a permission from East Java governor as well as the East Java Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office for the offshore exploration,” ESDM vice head Tutut Triherawati said Sunday.
Tutut said Orna should promote its plan on the exploration among villagers mainly fishermen in Bulu Banjar — located three miles from the proposed exploration field in Rembang Block.
About 90 percent area of the Rembang block is in Central Java province and the remaining to East Java, she added.
Tutut said Orna should maintain the balance of marine ecosystem in Rembang block so as not to disturb fishermen’s life.
“Therefore, the publicity of the offshore exploration should be carried out two to three weeks before the exploration begins,” she said.
Meanwhile, Orna International general manager Bambang Panuju said based on a survey the Rembang block has a deposit of 400 million cubic feet of gas and 52 million barrels of oil. (***)million cubic feet of gas and 52 million barrels of oil.
