Republic Mine Buyer Revealed
The new owner of the Republic Mine has been revealed. It’s Republic Mountain Lake LLC.
According to a Republic Township official, the township received a letter in an envelope from ‘A’ Lindberg and Sons offices this week. The letter says Republic Mountain Lake LLC purchased the property from Cleveland Cliffs December 29.
It goes on to say Republic Mountain Lake has hired a long established local firm to determine the best use of the property.
Speculation in Marquette County indicated Kennecott Minerals was going to be involved with the Republic property for processing the ore from their proposed copper and nickel mine. But Kennecott spokesman Jon Cherry says Kennecott is not involved, and not in any discussions involving the Republic Mine property.
