Shane Co. to Donate 10% of Pearl Sales to Disaster Relief Efforts in Japan

Shane Co., the largest privately-held jeweler in the United States, today announced that the company will donate 10% of all cultured pearl sales through April 17, 2011, to earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese people,” said Tom Shane, owner of Shane Co. “The events in Japan have special significance for me, as I have close relationships with the pearl farmers there, who supply Shane Co. with our cultured pearls. Like Shane Co., they’re family-run businesses that go back for generations.”

Mr. Shane added: “A minimum of fifty percent of the proceeds from this program will be donated to the Red Cross. The remaining proceeds will be donated to other worthy organizations providing direct relief to earthquake and tsunami victims.”
