Texas-based group awarded $375 million energy contract

A Texas-based nonprofit consortium has been awarded a 375 (M) million dollar contract to manage research and technology for natural gas production and oil exploration and the development of new energy sources.
Officials said today that the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America will award contracts to universities, research institutions, national laboratories and industry partners.

The 10-year contract was awarded to the research partnership by the U-S Department of Energy. The group is based in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land.

U-S Representative Nick Lampson says the contract is funded from royalties to the government that are paid by oil and gas companies using federal lands.
