UK Coal burning brightly as Yorks top performer

UK Coal was Yorkshire’s top performing stock in July ”“ posting a 17 per cent rise in total shareholder return (TSR), according to the Yorkshire StockWatch report by Halifax Financial Services.

The Doncaster-based coal producer said it expected to move back into the black and report profits for the first half of this year following strong sales and production.

Across the wider market, the total return of the FTSE 100 Index increased 1.7 per cent, while the total return of the FTSE 250 fell 0.6 per cent.

The FTSE All Share rose 1.3 per cent, compared with an average 0.9 return for the month of July since 1986.

Cranswick, the Driffield-based producer of pork products and animal feed, reported increased sales for the first-quarter which were positively received by the market with an increase of 11 per cent in TSR.

Shipley-based Pace Micro Technology, which had been the poorest performer in June, enjoyed an eight per cent increase in TSR for July.

The company, which provides digital set-top boxes to broadcasters, recently unveiled a new device for viewing high-definition television and surfing the internet.
