Utah gets federal grant for mine-safety training

Utah will receive $163,657 as the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration announced Tuesday more than $7.9 million in grants for fiscal 2007.

The health and safety training grants will be presented to states after their applications are received and approved.

Recipients will use the funds to provide federally mandated training to miners. The grants cover training and retraining of miners working at surface and underground coal and metal and nonmetal mines, including miners engaged in shell dredging or employed at surface stone and sand and gravel mining operations.
